I teach Krav Maga because Krav Maga allows people to be someone that perhaps they never imagined they could be. Krav Maga, the words themselves, the actual meaning of Krav Maga, is “contact combat.” It comes from the state of Israel and it was developed in 1948 to be the official fighting system of the Israeli Defense Forces. Krav Maga is not a martial art, it’s a fighting system.

Most martial arts are based on some kind of sporting system. In a sporting system, there’s referees, there’s rules, there’s things you can and can not do. In Krav Maga, there are no rules. Krav Maga is for anyone who wants to get a great workout and learn self defense in the process. It can be men, it could be women, it could be kids. It tells you how to do the most amount of damage in the least amount of time regardless of the person regardless of the size. I’m very small and I’m up against guys twice my size.

Krav Maga is not about violence, Krav Maga is about ending the violence, identifying it. I’m much more self-assured. I know that I can handle situations. People that train in Krav Maga, they understand the risks associated with physical confrontation. Because of that training, people tend to value the importance of not being physical, of not engaging into confrontation.
